Description
SS-31, also called elamipretide, is a cell-permeable tetrapeptide (D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH₂). It collects in the inner mitochondrial membrane and binds cardiolipin.
Research context
That binding is thought to stabilize the electron-transport chain, so it is used in research on mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress and bioenergetics.
